Silver Birch is a two-bedroom lodge on a hillside two miles outside Gatehouse of Fleet, with eight metres of floor-to-ceiling glass looking over open farmland and the Solway Firth. On a clear day you can see the Lake District hills and the Isle of Man. The view changes all day, and many guests simply sit and watch it for hours. I designed and built the lodge myself, so the details are ones I would want to find: underfloor heating, a high-spec kitchen, Sonos, fast Starlink broadband and decking for the evenings. Red kites and deer are regular visitors, and the lodge sits within the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, so the stars are worth staying up for. A path from the door takes you through Cally Woods into Gatehouse of Fleet. Dogs and cats are welcome, and there is an EV charger right outside.
